Change in Boarding station

Suppose you have a confirmed ticket in a train between Mumbai to Delhi. Now, you may want to (for any reason) board the train not in Mumbai but Vadodara which is 3rd station from Mumbai.

Normally people who don't know about this rule they would cancel the ticket and get a new ticket from Vadodara to Delhi.

But the fact is that you don't need to get into the hassle of canceling the ticket and booking a new one. You can simply change your boarding station on the same train.

CHANGE OF BOARDING POINT :
If a passenger desires to occupy reserved accommodation from any station enroute, he would be permitted to entrain at any intermediate station he chooses irrespective of the distance from the starting station subject to the following conditions :
  • A specific request must be made in writing at the station from where the ticket is purchased and reservation made atleast 24 hours before the scheduled departure of the train from the starting station.
  • The Railway Administration reserves the right to use such accommodation from the originating station up to the station at which the passenger is due to entrain.
  • No refund will be permissible for the portion of journey not performed by the passenger.

Why is this important?
Many people think that if you have a change in plan you can hop on from another station because you have already reserved the seat. But this is not true.

According to the rules, if a person is not found occupying the seat within next stop. Then the Ticket Checker has the authority to assign the seat to a new passenger. So if that happens you will loose your seat.

In most cases this would not happen. But its better to take a little bit of precaution to avoid any inconveniences later on!
